#fuelyourawesome – banana muffin style!

#fuelyourawesome – banana muffin style!

I have had the opportunity to blend and bake with Bob’s Red Mill Nutritional Boosters over the last month and I’ve made some pretty yummy smoothies and goodies that have helped fuel my awesome! In addition to my daily smoothies, my hubby and teenager have helped fuel their awesome as well!  A favorite of the teenager is the Vanilla PB&J recipe that was provided on the back of the Vanila Protein Powder. But, my newest “creation” with Bob’s Red Mill are my Gluten-Free Banana Muffins – Protein Boosted! I used my favorite low-sugar, gluten-free recipe and simply added a serving size of the Vanilla Protein Powder. This gave my batch of six muffins another 3.3 grams of protein per muffin! Nutrional boost – winning! This will be how I make my muffins from now on! Who couldn’t use a little more protein, fiber and probiotics in their diets?!? I did a family taste test – they agreed they were a little fluffier and so yum! Now to try it with the Chai Protein Powder and oh my, I may have to hide those, yeah for real!             With Bob’s Red Mill products I know I’m getting products from the nation’s leader in stone milling and that they are dedicated to producing natural products in a natural way. They stone grind all common and many uncommon grains into flours and meals, including a full line of certified gluten free products and an extensive line of certified organic products. I personally use the Organic High Fiber Coconut Flour for baking. Thanks to Fit Approach and to Bob’s Red Mill for the test drive of the awesome fuel so I can keep my body #summerstrong! You too can #fuelyourawesome. Whip, sip and bake up something new. Get your hands on some of your very own Bob’s Red Mill – here’s a coupon for you! ** I received Bob’s Red Mill Nutritional Booster smoothies through my affiliation with Fit Approach. Summer is here .. I am ready | #summerstrong |

Summer is here .. I am ready | #summerstrong |

Per the calendar summer is still a few days away, but for me the kids are out of school – so summer is here! My goal for the summer is to stay summer strong – so I can keep up with the busyness of the season. During summer sometimes things can get a little off track. With day trips, workouts and running adventures, never mind the usual laundry piles and vacuuming that needs attention, there is typically no schedule for summer. So things tend to be all over the place – sleeping in, staying up late, breakfast a little later, lunch more like early dinner .. which means workouts for me are also all over the place. Just yesterday I had my “me time” at 4:00 in the afternoon .. instead of the norm, which typically is upon waking up, after coffee!! Even with all of the busy, for me it is important my nutrition stays on point during all the summer fun. I need to keep my blood sugar stabilized with no highs and lows. With Bob’s Red Mill Nutritional Boosters Protein Powders, I know they are certified organic, low glycemic, vegan .. packed with plant based protein, gluten-free and they contain probiotics for good tummy health! These are all nutritional boosts and can play into how I feel. Bob’s Red Mill is the nation’s leader in stone milling. Where they produce over 400 whole grain foods for every meal of the day, including a full line of gluten-free products and a line of certified organic products. They are dedicated to producing natural foods in the natural way.   Bob’s Red Mill Protein Powder is the perfect before or post workout smoothie. I burn through what little sugars are in the smoothies with my sweat sessions .. this keeps me on the right track and leaves me ready to tackle the rest of my day. My hubby broke into the chocolate protein powder the other night (yummy!) and a favorite of mine is the Chai. The smell alone is amazing! I like to whip it up with spinach and a few frozen cherries, not a typical combo but it has antioxidant benefits. My next challenge is to bake with these powders and to give my breakfast muffins a healthy boost! Get your hands on a bag of your own – Bob’s Red Mill was kind enough to provide a giveaway through my blog. The winner will get their very own 16 oz. bag of choice – Chai, Chocolate, Vanilla, or the Protein & Fiber Booster. (Enter Rafflecopter below) Happy summer .. stay on track #SUMMERSTRONG   ** I received Bob’s Red Mill Nutritional Booster smoothies through my affiliation with Fit Approach. All yummy opinions...

Chocolate, Mixed Berry and Vanilla Chai – Oh My!

Chocolate, Mixed Berry and Vanilla Chai – Oh My!

I eat a plant based diet and when I was given the opportunity to participate in a taste test of  Manitoba Harvest Hemp Smoothie’s I jumped at the chance.   I was sent a variety pack of Vanilla Chai, Chocolate and Mixed Berry hemp protein smoothie powder to try. So over the last few weeks I’ve been whipping up yummy smoothies and smoothie bowls (a new favorite!) for myself and the family. I’ve had so much fun trying out new recipes I’ve had pinned on my “smoothie board” in hopes of breaking up with my same old smoothie habit. I’m happy to say I’ve found some new favorites! My first sip of Manitoba Smoothie was with Vanilla Chai (LOVE!) – it was creamy, with just enough zing and the perfect pick me up on a crazy busy day. Vanilla Chai always makes me feel so “adult” for some reason – which is perfect for days when I don’t feel like it!   Now lets talk the lean and green of Hemp Seeds: A few years ago when “hemp” was the new superfood, I will admit I was curious. However upon doing research (Dr. Google), rest assured, if you are including hemp in your diet you reap the benefits from the seed of the hemp plant. Hemp seeds have a whopping 10 grams of protein per ounce, making them a nutritional powerhouse, and a great alternative to animal protein. There is also almost three-quarters of your daily dose of recommended Vitamin-E and a third of your daily recommended dose of zinc in each serving. Hemp is also chock full of Omega’s 3 and 6. Each 30 gram serving of Manitoba Hemp Protein Smoothie has 15 grams of plant based protein and the addition of organic spinach, kale and broccoli. What did I tell ya, nutritional BAM! Here is my new favorite thing to eat, a smoothie breakfast bowl. Mixed Berry blended with frozen black cherries, a half of a frozen banana, a hand full of frozen mixed berries, coconut oil (a little of the good fat!) and some ice. My Vitamix whips it up quick and thick – I top it with kiwi, fresh banana, dried coconut and almonds! Sit back and enjoy ..   After not feeling myself for a few months and having a few not so great races, I had some lab work done. I recently learned that my body is deficient in a few vitamins and minerals and my hypoglycemia is rearing its ugly head. I was also told that I have low HDL cholesterol. With all of these factors and with all of my endurance training and racing, it’s no wonder I haven’t felt quite...

HIGHX – Quite the Workout & So Much More with Gabby Reece

HIGHX – Quite the Workout & So Much More with Gabby Reece

Imagine walking into 24 Hour Fitness and the first thing you see is Gabby Reece getting interviewed by local media stations!! Jaw on the floor .. I kind of stopped in my tracks (and tried not to stare – too hard!). She was statuesque . beautiful .. crazy fit and super friendly! Everything I imagined!    Gabby came to town to introduce her new fitness experience HIGHX. I was one of the lucky few there to try out the new class. Me, there with a few other bloggers and fitness instructors, who were getting trained to teach HIGHX that day by Gabby herself.  Seriously, me, in the same room with her and being lead by the creator of this new, what I’m sure to be, fitness club favorite (pinch me) .. She has been teaching this class in her hometown of Hawaii for seven years. Gabby explained the class as a high intensity team “sport”. Where everyone works together in teams of 2-6 and motivates each other, at any level or age, as you progress through 15 different stations .. non-stop! Each station incorporates two different exercises. Each exercise is either done for 1 minute or 30 seconds at a time, depending on station, for a total of 3 minutes per station. Once “30” is called you switch exercises  – or stay on same exercise, again, depending on your station. For example my first station was 30 seconds of squat jumps across a bench then alternating with 30 seconds of squats – repeat for two more minutes. This first station had me dripping in sweat and I felt like I had never worked out before in my life and certainly not like a gal who did two ultras in a month just over eight weeks ago! Phew! When it was time for the next station I was happy to see the floor for planks and single arm balancing .. relieved for about a minute! My legs were shaky and on fire from the first round and we had 13 different rotations to go! I was so impressed with Gabby and how she worked the entire class of about 40 people. She walked the room and gave everyone a “good job” .. “looking good” and even a correction of form or two (that’d be me!). Oh yeah .. and a “nice work” from a pro is a definite ego boost. It was truly a kick booty, dripping sweat .. make you want to catch your breath kind of class! Once the class was over she gave a big congratulations to us all for completing it successfully and jokingly said she had 1,200 more exercises where that came from! Can you imagine?!? Wait .. What? 1,200...

Title Nine / The Fit Fest (pssst .. giveaway time)

Title Nine / The Fit Fest (pssst .. giveaway time)

On Wednesday I headed to Berkeley and entered my first Title Nine store – ahhhh! I had seen the catalog and ooohed and ahhhed over it for years but never anything more .. As a  Sweat Pink Ambassador, I got an invite to their blogger Fit Fest. The Fit Fest was all about the girls and finding that right sports bra (women we all know how hard this can be!). I had never had a sports bra fitting .. and boy do they know the sports bra business and have every kind of sports bra you could dream of!   I know I haven’t been running in great sports bras and when I did my last ultra it was evident. I wanted to take mine off at about mile 35 of fifty and throw it off a cliff! At mile 40’ish there was some serious bio-freeze action going on all around the sports bra band area (I have the best friends who signed up for that bio-freeze job – uh-huh for real!).  When I entered the store I was welcomed in by Molly and Amy, I called Amy The (sports) Bra Whisperer. Amy asked me my bra size and what I was looking for in a sports bra – me thinking I just don’t want to curse at it or tear it off during my next ultra! Amy knew exactly what I needed and she sent me into a fitting room with a stack of beauties (I will admit I typically get the boring colored sports bras because of my size, but not there!). She assured me that once I found the right one my “girls” running life would never be the same and I think she might be right. I tried on six different sports bras and found one that was it! I took it out for a bouncing, jumping test run .. on the in-store trampoline. How cool is that? They have a trampoline, jump ropes and a bouncy ball for you to test ride, er jump, the sports bras! I jumped and kicked and jumped some more and seriously the girls did not move!! And for me the winner was the Moving Comfort Juno Bra .. with a way cute grayish print (love it!).     You too can get in on the fun! The Title Nine Fit Fest is here with several locations to  choose from. If you’ve never had a sports bra fitting I recommend visiting a Title Nine store and taking a few out for some jumps!    Title Nine is graciously letting me host a giveaway .. for your very own perfect sports bra!! To enter I’d love for you to leave me a comment below on why you’d love a new sports bra and be...

New Fitness Class & Gabby Reece {what?!?!}

New Fitness Class & Gabby Reece {what?!?!}

As a busy mother runner .. I’m always looking for a new, fun .. and most importantly effective way to sweat – enter Gabrielle Reece!  Gabby Reece is a (gorgeous) well known Women’s Beach Volleyball League star and fitness icon – and she’s got a new gig.     When I was a few decades younger, I remember watching her on the sand and dreaming of her long legs, her athleticism and natural beauty. I had the long legs, but not quite the skill and grace that she possessed while playing any sort of sport. Volleyball (with my hand in the air) .. yep, just one of the many teams I tried out for in high school and never made. But there are no hard feelings volleyball – with a lot of hard work, and many years later, I am now a three time ultra runner and athlete! Okay, now back to Gabby .. She is known to women worldwide for spreading her philosophies on the love of fitness, good health and well-being for themselves and their family. All qualities I try to possess daily. She has recently partnered with 24 Hour Fitness and Lifeline to launch the new HIGHX training class. She is the creator of this new 50-minute high energy circuit training class designed to improve daily and overall athletic performance (can you hear me screaming .. I so need this class?!?!) It was created for all fitness and skill levels. I am hearing; perfect for the, somewhat uncoordinated, athlete that I am – winning!!    I will be hitting a local 24-Hour Fitness in a few days to give this, what I am sure will be a butt kicking, class a try. Oh and I will be doing my best, (not so goofy -trying too hard), posing if I get a chance to snap a pic with Gabby herself! Ahhh! The class is open  to club members and geusts alike on Sunday, June 14, 2015. Please call the 24 Hour Fitness Sacramento (916) 384-9555 for details. Stay tuned for my full review of HIGHX .. I can’t...
