Off to Ragnar Trail Summit I Go .. and A Little Getting Out of My Own Way

Sitting on the plane, headed to Salt Lake City, wondering .. How, in just a few short months of starting my blogging adventure, did I get here? I am not quite sure. I’m off to somewhere I’ve never been .. ready to go do and be a part of something that I love .. it feels like a dream! I’ve been so busy with my family and my teens, our everyday crazy busy schedule, the months have zoomed by. I am just a few months out from finishing my fourth marathon in December and went straight into training for my first Ultra 50K that is just over a week away! The training didn’t get easier .. just harder, with more miles and lots of hills — oh yeah, you guessed it, life didn’t slow down! What I’ve realized – after my fifth 20-mile plus weekend of long, often times hard, running — and many, many running and text therapy sessions with friends – is that I will finish this race no matter what. Pushing and fighting through miles 18-22 of self doubt, where she likes to rear her ugly head – often times screaming! In my world I may not be the fastest .. or the most graceful when I cross that finish line .. but I will have done something that scared me .. and almost for certain I will be ready to sign up for another one within minutes after I’m done (yes, it’s craziness)! In all the hundreds of miles I’ve run in just a few short months, it’s not my feet or legs that are tired .. it’s her, self doubt, she has been taking up too much room in my head .. and I’m ready to send her packing! All the long hard hours of training and running for miles deserve it .. I just need to get out of my own way! So where I sit now .. on a plane with a bunch of strangers .. is where I need to be. Heading into taper week with no long running and an easy training week ahead on my schedule. I get to go enjoy a new town and meet some new faces .. run or snowshoe in new places .. learn all about Ragnar Trail and take it all in. I am ready to get out of my own way .. and for all of this I am grateful...

That’s a Wrap – Week Three #MNBCHALLENGE Recap

That’s a Wrap – Week Three #MNBCHALLENGE Recap

That’s a wrap — my first Sweat Pink Ambassador Challenge! Week 3 of the Lorna Jane Move Nourish Believe Challenge and Fit Approach has come to an end .. It’s amazing to me that one little everyday day challenge really helped me focus and take the time for me – I am not just talking about running for me, but really taking the time and think about who “I” am. This week was all about BELIEVE! Believe in yourself and others. Here’s how it went: Week 3 Monday: Spoil Yourself – As a busy mom, a few moments by myself outside taking in the sun with my feet up .. ahhhhh, I don’t remember the last time I did that! It was just a few minutes, but in my head it was beauty and peace and quiet all at once! Tuesday: 5 Mindful Minutes – At night when the kids were in bed and the entire house was quiet, I had the dwindling fireplace all to myself .. I took the time to reflect on the day and sit in the complete dark .. Zen! Wednesday: My Happy – Training for my first Ultra, a 50K, I’ve found a new happy on the trails, in the dirt and this day taking my crazy pup along for what is her happy too, a run. Thursday: Thankful Thursday – My girl and her big smile running alongside me, seriously no other words .. just THANKFUL! Friday: Share the Love – This was about sharing the love of your biggest supporter .. I chose my beautiful girl who is always leaving me Good Luck notes on the morning of my races. We’ve run a few fun runs and 5K’s together and maybe one day a half-marathon! She doesn’t know it .. but she is my motivation! The past few weeks have taught me to step back and take a good look at how I’ve been running my life and to continue to Move Nourish and Believe. MOVE: Fitness makes me a better person – inside and out. NOURISH: I have to nourish myself so I can nourish my family, my biggest love. BELIEVE: Believe in myself and have faith to keep it all going when all the craziness seems to be overwhelming. On Wednesday there will be a #MNBChallenge Twitter Party .. Woo-Hoo – I can’t wait to see how everyone else has enjoyed this challenge! I’ve enjoyed reading everyone’s re-caps and how they’ve put the Move Nourish Believe Challenge to work for them! Thank you Lorna Jane and FitApproach! It has been great! I cannot wait for the next one...

Trail Warrior Surprise ..

Trail Warrior Surprise ..

You may have heard me talk about my love for all things Ragnar – and that I am a Ragnar Trail Warrior. Which to me is the best of both (running) worlds .. Ragnar Relay on trails – how could I not love this!! A few weeks ago I received an e-mail that took me by surprise! I got an invite, as a Ragnar Trail Warrior, to attend the Ragnar Trail Summit! I was so doing my best happy dance (truly a crazy sight)! I had no idea what this was, and before checking my calendar I found myself saying YES! I figured everything else would fall into place – like who would shuttle my kids to and from school (my hubby leaves the house before 6:00 a.m. for work), Girl Scouts and practices, make family dinners etc. etc. and who would take me to the airport?!?! But I knew I could not pass up an opportunity to learn more about Ragnar Trail and Salomon, a race sponsor — and the only trail shoes I run in .. LOVE! So in just over a week I will be flying to Salt Lake City, Utah .. ready to learn as much as I can and take it all in. Looking forward to the beauty of Utah (I’ve never been) and everything Ragnar! Oh yeah, and did I mention — I don’t love to fly .. so this is a big step! I’ve gotta put my big girl running shoes on and get ready for the ride! As an “athlete” I am thankful for every opportunity I have been given in the past year .. thankful for my family who just lets me run this amazing ride and friends who are always cheering me...

Week Two #MNBCHALLENGE Recap

Week Two #MNBCHALLENGE Recap

Week two and going strong .. As a Sweat Pink Ambassador and participating in the Lorna Jane Move Nourish Believe Challenge, I am loving that each day there is “something new” to try, do .. or eat! As a busy mom .. on a detailed training schedule, in between kiddo drop offs, pick ups and meetings .. it’s easy to fall into the same old routine. This challenge has certainly kept me on my toes and made me think a bit more .. about what I’m “challenging myself with today”. This weeks challenge was NOURISH .. from the inside out {exactly where I need to focus}! It went like this .. Week 2 Monday: Go Meatless – Our house has been meatless for almost three years .. so I made one of our favorites Butternut Squash Pasta. Tuesday: Take Your Lunch To Work – I’m a stay at home mom and my typical work day starts at 6:00 a.m. and is at warp speed until bed time. My work desk is my kitchen table, where I enjoyed potato and leek soup – yummy! Wednesday: What I Ate Wednesday – This is one thing I’m really trying hard to perfect. This is made easier for me using one of my new favorite things my Erin Condren Life Planner – seriously one of my best purchases this year (and not only for tracking my food, but to run my life)! For me, I tend to skip meals and then at 2:00 in the afternoon I’m starving and ready to eat the refrigerator! Like I said a work in progress! Thursday: Thirsty Thursday Smoothie Day – This day was my favorite to share .. I love, love, love a good smoothie! A typical day for me starts with a Shakeology Smoothie .. it’s loaded with whole food nutrition and good for you super foods .. an all in one nutrient dense cup of yum! One of my favorites is the Vegan Chocolate blended with frozen strawberries, bananas and peanut butter. Friday: Go Raw – It was hard to think outside of my recipe box .. but I picked something my family loves and put a new twist on it. Chipotle Lime Avocados .. so good! I will be using this new recipe as an easy appetizer or side dish quite often – heck maybe even part of my lunch! I’m looking forward to start the third week of this challenge .. where it will be all about BELIEVE .. and a little self love! We can all use more of...

Week One #MNBCHALLENGE Recap

Week One #MNBCHALLENGE Recap

So you may have read or seen some of my social media pics, I am participating as a #sweatpink ambassador in the Lorna Jane and Fit Approach Move Nourish Believe Blogger Challenge. With this three week event comes daily challenges that go along with the Move Nourish Believe philosophy, as well as Lorna Jane’s .. Lorna‚Äôs Philosophy: MOVE her body every day NOURISH from the inside out BELIEVE in herself and that anything is possible if you work hard enough. I’ve found that on my journey to becoming an “athlete” with every race I sign up for I push myself to do and become more — train harder than I ever have. Not to win first place .. but to be more for ME (inside and out), be an example to my tweens and to try and inspire someone everyday. To me the Move Nourish Believe Challenge and the philosophy behind it seems so fitting on my continuous journey. Week One: MOVE Day 1: Sweat-It-Out (favorite way to sweat) I found myself at the gym doing a few rounds of a GPP strength workout with my friend Rachel, of Running Rachel. GPP is new to me and a new favorite, as it has given me strength to train for my first Ultra. Day 2: Change It Up (sweat a new way) I did not necessarily do something new .. I did something that I haven’t done in over a year and never, ever do after a run. I added a 5-minute yoga routine after my run .. for stretching! With this challenge I will now make it a priority once a week! You can find the routine here Move Nourish Believe Lorna Jane Day 3: Let’s Get Planking (plank for at least 5 minutes) I did my planking in between my strength training in 1 minute intervals and some during my hill repeat training. Day 4: Buddy Up (workout with a friend) On Thursdays I meet a few friends for a bright and early sweat session .. running! This week we had much needed rain that accompanied us at 5:15 a.m. Day 5: Fav Friday (five fitness favorites) I showed off a few of my favorite things. A lot of miles put in on the trails these past few weeks with my Nathan Sports duration vest, Salomon trail running shoes, my go to accessory Sweaty Bands, my Garmin and Tailwind Nutrition for proper hydrating! I’ve enjoyed this weeks challenges and look forward to next weeks – where it will be all about NOURISH! Sometimes this is the hardest … but I’m up for the challenge Lorna...
