I am a runner .. Not a racer

The end of July, already?!? My teens go back to school in a few weeks (what?!?) .. binders, books, pencils, paper and yearbooks to buy (again)! Didn’t we just start summer .. 7 weeks ago? Ahhh! This means that fall is around the corner and race run season is fast approaching – yay! I love races! I am a middle of the pack runner, I am not fast, I am not slow .. so I say “run” while others may say race! I am okay with that (on most days). It’s what makes me, me .. and all the miles, sweat and the “I just did that” feeling worth it. I am a runner .. I train, I sweat, sometimes I want to push the alarm to snooze at 4:40 a.m., I run, sometimes I want to only run half of what I set out to, sometimes I yell at the miles and sometimes I run further than I planned to (and am so happy that I did). I run to cross that finish line .. I am a runner! In a little over 7 weeks I will be running my first race of the season, Ragnar Napa Valley! Looking forward to all the miles and the crazy fun! I love the whole race experience and cannot wait to run...

Do Good .. Feel Good

Some days I don’t want to .. ▪️get out of bed ▪️run ▪️do laundry ▪️make my bed ▪️think about making dinner ▪️give thought to my to-do list that needs attention But on real-life days when I feel that way .. I try to remember that when I do good .. I feel good! This makes me want to keep it up! Yes, there will be “those days” .. but I will do my best to keep my “feel good” feeling going. It only leads to a happier me and I am sure my family appreciates that! Today I got out of bed, had a good sweat, tackled laundry and dinner is on the stove simmering .. the to-do list still needs work .. but overall today is a feel good day! Signs of Making Progress ..

Signs of Making Progress ..

A few signs that I’ve had a good week .. 1. Sore muscles (good sore!) .. 2. Mileage right on track to meet my #RunThisYear goal .. 2. Full calendar pages tracking my daily progress .. 3. Books and pages read, notes in margins {re-reading ahead} .. 4. A bigger than normal load of workout laundry .. 5. A very lived-in clean picked up house .. 6. At some moments thinking I am on my way .. Day by day .. making progress. One step forward and it’s okay if there is one step back. I am human .. I am a mom, a wife .. an athlete .. busy! I won’t let it break me .. For the month of July I’ve been putting in the time .. there are no shortcuts to take .. with my aim of building endurance (stronger, leaner muscles would be nice) to carry me through the race(s) set out for me. My races .. not only running races .. but the race we call life .. I will run it with endurance and love where it is taking...

Working It Out (Strength .. Running) Perfectly Imperfect

One week back to consistent strength training and running and boy I can feel it .. in a good, sore, muscles worked way! Amazing how once you (I) do something that you feel good about can make you feel strong .. like, immediately! Is it me .. or does everyone feel 10x more muscle after a good workout .. ha, only dreaming!! Whatever it takes to give me a boost and keep me motivated .. Right now I’m enjoying my GPP – Summer Shred workouts through Bobbi at NHerShoes .. and oh boy can Bobbi put together a great week of moments of “I am so strong!” and “I am completely out of shape!” at the same time! Loving it! Thanks Bobbi for that smile and motivation through your videos :)! In all seriousness .. one day my “athlete” body and mind will take shape and be happy together. This would be huge for me if they were in synch .. I know, I know always a work in progress .. Working it out and learning to be happy with perfectly imperfect! In the meantime .. I will keep hitting the dirt, road .. and floor for more muscle building burpees and miles .. and loving every sore muscle I...

Double Digits Pay Off ..

It’s been a while since I have done double digits on the trails .. In April and June I did two very fun Rock N Roll Half Marathon’s along the streets of San Francisco and San Diego. I’m 2/3 of the way to the awesome Cali Combo medal! The rest of June I did very little running. It was actually one of my lowest mileage months in a long time .. less running and more enjoying the first month of summer. I’m totally okay with that! Road running and trail running are so different for me. Today was hard but worth it .. On the trails I’m not so competitive with myself (whew!!), trying not to stress about time or pace. Instead looking at how far away the bridge was that we started on .. or the hills we just conquered and looking forward to running down them! When it’s all done I feel accomplished and can say .. Today started out with five miles sounding just right. Today I chose to go further .. push harder, knowing there’s always a pay off .. today the pay off was...
